Let's talk about 'mastery'. Mastery of a thing is the highest skill level. It is hard earned, and people spend time and energy to reach the point where they are the master of a thing. We found that in Dead Legends this was not the case, that new players could come in as a Master of a weapon or a tradeskill without a heavy investment. Meanwhile medical types took heavy investment in the list to reach mastery. We felt that for game balance this was the right approach. To be the "Master" you need to invest in the list.
As of 2nd Edition we have raised the bar to get master craftsman, and a weapon mastery. For tradeskills we are requiring that you be able to refurbish a item, this is a 15xp gate to Master craftsman. For weapon mastery we raised the bar a bit higher and require 30xp be spent in effected training list; Martial or Marksmanship. This puts the various Mastery skills on par with one another and through the skills purchased demonstrate true Mastery of an art.
The more you know!!
