Nov 6, 1879 the voting citizenry of the Confederate States will again go to the polls to elect a new president. President Longstreet is leading in the polls, but Alexander H. Stephens is putting up a fight. The platforms of the two candidates, both being Democrats, are fairly similar. The major differences being Longstreet is an expansionist with designs on strong alliances with Europe, and Stephens is looking to close ranks, and pull out of any treaties that risk bringing the CSA into a war- such as the rebellion in Cuba. Having the advantage of being a war hero, and the incumbent, President Longstreet is sure to win handily. Inauguration will be held in Richmond February 22, 1880.
